
This morning I received a notification on my phone that a shop review had been left. When I went into the program, I saw nothing but French. Of course, I don’t read or speak French; having chosen my high school language requirement as Spanish, to align with the locality of my residence at the time. So I hit the Translate button. What I saw was the nicest review, and from a customer who lived in a small village in France.
I remember her well. When I was getting her order ready, the automatic shipping label gizmo didn’t like her address. So I emailed her. She explained to me that she lived in a small village, that there were no street addresses or house numbers. That I should write something like Blue House, left side of road, etc. Well, do you think USPS would like that? No. But I took a chance, all the while with the idea in my head of donkeys or horses delivering mail, with her purchase in a small fabric bag, bounding along for the ride.
Now this was the last week of November. The cozy was delivered yesterday. And we had a huge USPS slowdown this year due to the uptick in online shopping. Not bad for delivery!
I can see that cozy on her shelf, in a corner, waiting for her friends who aren’t in lockdown. They come in, bring gifts, and in their beautiful French tongue, ask where she got it. And she will reply, “Aunt Mayme’s Attic in the USA”
Now, I wonder, is “Mayme” a known name in France?
